When You Don’t Seem to Be Progressing

There are days when it’s just not happening. You don’t feel that all of the effort you’re putting into your workouts, your eating plans are amounting to enough. Sometimes, it even seems like everyone you know is moving forward and you’re just stuck. The truth is, you’re not, but convincing your brain of that is just a mountain too high to climb right now. Whether you’ve been in search of a better you for a day, a month or years, discouragement can sneak up on you. But, there are antidotes, and you might just need them someday, or even today.

Pick Up Your Pencil

Nike is right, sometimes you have to just do it. Get into your workout clothes, get to the gym or to your exercise spot and begin. Realizing that you’re not alone in this feeling of discouragement can help you feel less isolated and paralyzed. Van Gogh, a pretty good artist in his own right faced it this way, “In spite of everything I shall rise again: I will take up my pencil, which I have forsaken in my great discouragement, and I will go on with my drawing”. This isn’t just your problem, it’s everyone’s challenge. And it’s a challenge you can surmount if you just “pick up your pencil” and begin again.
