So exactly what is a flourishing life and why would you want to lead one? If being the most mentally ill possible is a negative-ten, zero is not ill or happy, a flourishing life is a positive-ten. The happiest, most fruitful, and most fulfilled life is termed a flourishing life. What do positive emotions have to do with this? Negative emotions like anger yield action. You get angry, you yell. Too angry, you may hit a wall. Positive emotions differ. They don’t bring on the action, they bring on thought. These thoughts help develop imagination, introspective thought, love, and empathy. Positive thoughts put you on a trajectory for a flourishing life through your cognition. So, how can you go in this direction and away from a bad path?

It Starts with Mindfulness

Have you ever driven to work and don’t even remember part of your trip? That’s the opposite of mindfulness. You’re so preoccupied with the future or the past that you have no idea of what’s happening in the present. Mindfulness is the epitome of being in the moment. So why is that crucial? Because if you begin to appreciate what’s around you, rather than obliterating the input your senses are giving you, you will find joy in the smallest things in your life. Take a second and have a small joy-infusion sense by sense.
